"Thought is the most potent and creative power in the world. It initially takes shape in an individual mind. When shared with others, any benevolent thought starts growing as a vibrant process encompassing more and more people. It is such collective benevolent thoughts that build up great cultural values and treasure in the society."

Short Description

First of all, see, in the form of the mind, this inmost presence within us employs the five senses to perceive the world. So it opens the eyelids and sees the world of colors and shapes. It functions through the ear, activates the ear, and receives an infinite plurality of sounds. Similarly you smell, you touch, and you taste. All these are sensed by the mind - imprinted in the mind. And it is these that act as the stock of the mind in the form of memory. If it receives and stores infinite colors and shapes, similarly sounds, smells, etc. what do you think of the capacity of this mind? And mind you it is not a physical product or a part of the body.

Harih Om Tat Sat. Jai Guru.

I have been wondering for years as to how the seekers of Truth, enquirers, and the devotees are not able to get into the touch and feel of their object, call it either God or the Self.

Everybody knows that we are referring to a presence within the body. If it is a presence within the body, is it not closer to us than the body? And it is because of that all activities take place. The activities are sensory, bodily, oral, then mental and intellectual. The fist two are outside and visible, or audible. The second two are inner and invisible. As are the visible activities caused by this inner presence, so the invisible activities are also caused. From the invisible activities, if you are intelligent and keen, you can understand the magnitude and the potential of the inner presence.

First of all, see, in the form of the mind it employs the five senses to perceive the world. So it opens the eyelids and sees the world of colors and shapes. It functions through the ear, activates the ear, and receives an infinite plurality of sounds. Suppose 100 people speak to you, you are able to distinguish the speech of each one from the rest. Similarly you smell, you touch, and you taste. In all the areas you will find hundreds and thousands of differences.

Besides these sensory impressions, it also causes a variety of thoughts numbering to thousands, ten thousands, lakhs, millions, and crores. After having produced crores of thoughts, the mind is not exhausted - it is still ready to think further. Similarly it is able to take up enquiry and quest, pursue it and arrive at knowledge. It wakes up in the morning, remains wakeful for several hours. Equally so it wipes off all wakeful impressions and goes to sleep to remain as nothing. It also produces a dream, revealing its capacity to create matter and material items. Will you not agree with me that this inner presence is doing already all these?

When it perceives the white color, it does not become white. If it were to become, then it could not perceive the next color – yellow. All these colors are impressed in the mind, but by no impression is the mind changing its colorlessness. Similarly with the sound, etc… All these activities, all these impressions it does, but it does not become anyone of these. What does it mean? It means something – that the presence which you refer to as inside the body, is functioning as many, but it does not become anything. It remains aloof and different. Can you not understand the impersonal, the impartial, the color-free, the sound-free etc. of this presence? It is within your body, and it is activating you every time. And how do you say that you miss it?

You may miss it because you have not probed into it. Take up the probe one day and spend one month, two months, three months… may be a year. Within this period should you not come to feel what exactly it is? Suppose you don’t feel it, then what, you start running here and there? Go to the temples, go to the holy places, go to mountains, do tapasya and all. How can it be an answer? The presence is within your body. And you have to feel it. And the feeling is an inner process. Call it inward absorption, call it meditation, call it by any other name, but the process is inner. Not being able to do it or not doing it, suppose you take to something entirely different, will it make sense? It does not - but this is what all of you are doing. Instead of focusing on the inner presence and trying to get a feel of it, what are you doing? You are missing it, avoiding it, and you try so many other methods. Will it be right? As seekers, when are you going to discover the fallacy of your pursuit, the wrong of your focus?

So, I sometimes wonder. Our mind cannot be colorful, it cannot be shapeful, it cannot be electricity, it cannot be matter, it cannot be energy, it cannot be thought, it cannot be understanding, it cannot be forgetfulness, it cannot be this or that ... or that ... or that ... or that ... or that. Only when it is different from all these things, it will be able to function as an all impressing factor. It pictures the entire world. It is able to do so because it is not the world.

I have seen quite a number of people, may be thousands. I see a new man. I recognize him as somebody whom I have not seen. If I have to recognize him, I cannot be mentally all the other people. Understand; the entire figures, arithmetic and mathematics, are completely founded upon zero of no value. It is from that zero, point, naught, naught, naught, naught, naught, naught, naught, naught, one has come. It is from the same zero that one, two, three, four, ten, hundred, thousand, infinite….. it has come from there. It is from zero that minus one, minus two, minus three, minus four, minus infinity…. that has also come from the zero. In order to give rise to infinity on the plus and the minus side, the zero has to be a neuter.

P was telling me about – I could not understand him fully, something about silence. Silence is something like zero, but alas our people are not able to appreciate either the relevance or the significance, or the potential of silence. Silence in full becomes nirvikalpa samaadhi. Silence in full becomes Godliness and God experience. Silence in full becomes the Self and Self-experience.

So, this inner presence, without trying to understand it as something like a zero, you are expecting it to be a flood of light, a flood of energy, a flood of this or that. But my dear seekers, it is not that. It is the source of all this. To become the source of all this, it has to be different from all this. Yet be. Sometimes I am wondering what is true spiritual saadhana. Is true spiritual saadhana standing on the head, fasting, immersing oneself in cold water, or lying on hot sand banks? Or is true spiritual saadhana employing the power of understanding - namely intelligence in you and undergo the intelligential austerity. This is why tattva vichara is said to be the highest and the loftiest form of saadhana. Vasishta spoke to Sri Rama for 18 days.

Vasishta only spoke. Sri Rama only heard. But it was with the help of the ear – a whole inner process involving the mind and intelligence. The same thing happened to Pareekshit in front of Suka Muni. When are you going to recognize the role of reflection and introspection as the only means and end of spiritual saadhana?
