"Devotion is a means as well as its true end when it grows into a full treasure. When devotion becomes a treasure, you will need nothing more for inner fullness or affluence. As devotion grows, it will begin to free you of all desire, hatred and fear. It will relieve poverty, either by making you amply resourceful or by taking away from you the very feeling of poverty. Devotion also will remove your weakness, generating untold strength and confidence."

Q & A

Pranams Swamiji,

I read your article on Spirituality at Work Place. Interactional Excellence through Inner Renunciation. I have a confusion and need some answers for self improvement.

1. You say we need to drop desire and dislike totally. Agree. How do we drop expectation. When we are in workplace or relationship, obviously some kind of expectation arises. How does it work out practically?

2. Theoretically, I could sense how happy our mind could be reading the article. But how do we practice and train our mind in that direction.

Please suggest.

Poojya Swamiji Replies:

Dear son, I am touched by your enquiry. This is the way an earnest mind should proceed. By having raised the question itself, you have started the path well. It is bound to advance, enriching and leading you to fulfilment. Be sure.

It will take some time to explain the propositions, making the recipient know and absorb them well. But the seeker must have the patience and insistence. Enlightenment is the greatest persuasion for anything. It has the power to correct, arrest and mend, enrich, empower, elevate and reward the incumbent immensely. So go on getting exposed and enlightened about the matter.

You were born, with a biological as well as psycho-intellectual heredity. To this was added a measure of acquisition, from the environments and inputs you had during the period.

By the time you became an adult, this growth and enrichment was already been there. With that, you proceed. Naturally you will have had a certain worth, skill, readiness and resolve. These will take you to where you are to reach. Your employment is an alliance, between your worth and the society’s need.

Employ your skill, in the process enhance it by experience. The conjunction will irresistibly take you further and further. Where does desire come in here? Even if one who is of no or low worth desires something, will he get what he aims at?

Instead, even if a worthy person does not desire, will he not go forward and forward? Think well.

Only fools are deluded by desire. The wise and worthy do not and should not. America needs other Nationals, and so they are inviting immigrants. If they had no need, no invitation also would be there. Indians have the worth they need, so they go there. Everything takes place within a certain system, framework. Know about it more and more.

In the workplace, it is neither desire nor expectation that is called for. It is worth, its enhancement and embellishment, that warrant reward or elevation. Be diligent, persevering. These inner qualities are such that they will be wooed by prospective employers. Do not doubt.

Even enemies will appreciate good worth and qualities. So do not seek promotion, but deserve and warrant it. When even in the eyes of your enemy you deserve a promotion, only then have it. Can you imagine the power and benedictoriness of such a sterling mind? Mind has the power to act on matter and make it favourable and rewarding.

In our Mangalyaan, was it any undue expectation that worked, or the precision and tenacity that led the vehicle into the Mars orbit? Place water in a vessel on the stove and light it. Preserve the flame.

Will not the water boil, even when you do not think, expect or desire? Any effort is meant to bring an outcome. Completion of the effort is itself the outcome. Besides this, no intermediate factor is relevant at all.

Understand the systems of Nature, its laws and processes. Allow them to work, be in harmony with them.
